"Half Dome" - painted in the studio July 2007
Day 1
A couple of summer's ago, my family and I had a great vacation at Yosemite. I've been wanting to do some paintings from the photos I took while there. This is one of them, it's a painting of Half Dome as seen from the meadow on the Merced river. I begin as usual, underpainting and a quick sketch.
I paint in the sky and clouds and then wash in a more bluish under painting for Half Dome itself. Oops, time's up...more tomorrow.
Day 2
This is my second day's progress, I get most of this massive chunk of granite painted. I'm pretty happy with it thus far...
Day 3
Today I was able to finish off Half Dome and tomorrow I'll probably paint in the rocky wall to the left...
Day 4
Things are right on schedule, tomorrow I'll paint in the trees and perhaps finish the painting...Click here to see the finished piece
