Artist's Comments: "This is one of those paintings that came entirely from the middle of my head. I imagined a cowboy, after a long day of doing cowboy things, finding himself a long way from home. His only option: build a fire and rest a bit. Maybe I should have titled it, "Where on earth can those dang cows be?", but that somehow seemed like it might diminish the cowboy ideal we have in America.
"This piece really is a personal growth piece. I painted it because it needed to come out. I needed to paint the surrealistic sky, the huge mountains and the solitary existence of a cowboy and his horse and make it all work. I think it does, though this will never be a favorite piece of mine. It is oil on canvas, painted in a transitional style."
