Title: "First Snow" Medium: Predominately Oil and Mixed Media on Canvas
Original Size: 24" x 36"

Artist's Comments: "This classic piece was my first foray into wildlife art. For years people had encouraged me to paint North American wildlife. I had alway resisted the idea because I had a notion that all good wildlife art had to be photo-realistic and rendered to death. When I saw a nature program on television that showed elk in a misty, poorly-lit, wet forest, I got the idea for this piece and capitulated. This piece was accepted into the Nevada Museum of Art's Bienniel show in 1988. It is now part of my personal collection. It is available as a limited edition giclée print.

"This piece is predominantly oil, but the drips under the elk's feet are water based dyes. About half the snowflakes are acrylic and the other half oil; each lending particular qualities to achieve the varied effect I wanted."
