Artist's Comments: "I remember I stayed up till 3 a.m. working on this the night I started it. This was probably my young wife's first glimpse of my compulsiveness. She made me stop and come to bed because I had to get up early for work that morning. She has always been an anchor, keeping me safe and sane, oftentimes not without great tenacity and effort.
"I loved the feeling of excitement and beauty of a field of horses each compelled to beat the other to the finish line and tried to capture it on the canvas. This is a very early work, and were I to paint it over today, there are a few things I might change, but the feeling of movement and immediacy in it, I would keep."
