"Abandoned" - painted in the studio August 2007
1.) Out near Winnemucca Ranch, there's an old building (some sort of storage building by the looks of it) that has been abandoned and is gradually disintegrating. As I passed it one morning going to hike Tule Peak, I was struck by its lonesome beauty as the early morning sun lit it. I've decided to paint this in a square format (20" x 20") just because I've never done that before... Above is my start.
2.) Today I was able to get the rear hills pretty much done, the brush on the closest one was done with mostly palette knife and some brushwork. I'm going to try to keep this one kind of loose.
3.) I begin work on the building today and start in with some of the brush loosely trying to blend it in with the background hill. I'm painting most all the brush mostly with a palette knife, for some reason I'm able to keep it more "brushy" like that! It's kind of funny that I usually like to paint brush with a knife and when I've painted knives, I used a brush! Click here to see the finished piece...
